Finding phone numbers on the internet is no easy task. With so many sites, and so much extraneous information, it’s really hard to find what you’re looking for, like a digital needle in a cyber-haystack. If you have a phone number to search for, then reverse phone lookups can give you a name and address. However, if you don’t have a phone number to search for, then it’s even harder.

One non-phone search site that can be helpful is Wink.com. Wink is a interesting combination of people search and social networking site. Wink helps people who want to be found on the internet. By combining their own database with searches of other major social networking sites, Wink claims to have records of more than 20 million people.

To start your phone search on Wink, just type in the name and general location of the person you’re looking for. Wink has the added bonus of giving an extra space for you to input a hobby or interest that might help aid the search. Like all other search engines, Wink works best on unique searches, meaning it’s hard to find common names in large cities because there are so many search results. While not all Wink profiles include a phone number, they do include links to other places that person might be found on the internet, and these could easily have the information you’re looking for.

So if you need to search a phone number you found on Wink or anyplace else, use the resources available on the internet. Now you can use a reverse phone lookup to find out even more in just a few moments.

Susan has an undying knack for tech gadgets and cool tech websites. You can check out her latest techie project–a tool to find out who owns a cell phone number–at http://www.SearchAnyNumber.com

In late June 2004, Affinity Engines filled with against Google, claiming that Orkut Büyükkökten and Google based Orkut on Circle Code. Originally, the membership was by invitation.

You turned your PC on. And started surfing the net. After a few clicks you found yourself basking in the funky 8o’s music with a psychedelic blond young man dancing on YouTube. Guess what? You’ve just been Rickrolled!

After more than twenty years since Rick Astley’s "Never Gonna Give You Up" topped the Billboard Hot 100, this idiosyncratic dance music is once again hitting the public consciousness thanks to the phenomenon known as "RickRolling."

Around March 2007, bloggers and online social networkers started this internet hype by linking random items to the song’s nostalgically ’80s music video via YouTube. RickRolling was initiated to psych-out readers who would click on enticing hyperlinks, only to fall prey to a young Astley’s blonde bouffant and characteristic dance moves.

RickRolling has since started a wave internet fanaticism taking a life of its own. Avid YouTube users have started creating their own lip-synced renditions of the song. The phenomenon has then prompted digital sales for the track, which has sold at least 1,000 downloads per week since late December and peaked with 2,500 sales the week of March 9.

On April Fools’ Day, YouTube RickRolled users by linking to the video on all of its home-page features. Other online outlets such as Sports Illustrated and Live Journal followed suit. Altogether, the video was viewed 6.6 million times in one day, generating 43,000 user comments and boosting the track to No. 77 at Amazon’s download store.

"YouTube brought (RickRolling) to our attention late last year and were able to track the sources of the hits," says Sam Gomez, VP of digital marketing for Sony BMG’s commercial music group of Sony BMG, Astley’s label.

"Then about a month ago we were approached with the idea of the April Fools’ prank. Rick and his manager loved it. So we wanted to have fun with this."

According to Gomez the internet campaign was all made possible through the alliance that Sony BMG made with Google and YouTube in 2006 for access to its back catalog of videos.

Sony BMG has issued "Never Gonna Give You Up" as a ringtone, and is considering another greatest-hits release for 2008 in the United Kingdom. Three of Astley’s albums – his debut, "Whenever You Need Somebody"; "Greatest Hits"; and "Platinum & Gold Collection" – remain in print in the United States via Sony BMG’s RCA/Legacy label.

Currently the Rick Roll video on YouTube has registered almost 10 Million views and counting.

The 100 millionth account was created on August 6, 2006 in the Netherlands and a news story claimed 106 million accounts on September 8, 2006, and the site reportedly attracts 230,000 new registrations per day.

Within 10 days, the first version of MySpace was ready for launch. A complete infrastructure of finance, human resources, technical expertise, bandwidth, and server capacity was available for the site, right out of the gate, so the MySpace team wasn’t distracted with typical start-up issues. The project was overseen by Brad Greenspan (eUniverse’s Founder, Chairman, CEO), who managed Chris DeWolfe (MySpace’s current CEO), Josh Berman, Tom Anderson (MySpace’s current president), and a team of programmers and resources provided by eUniverse.

The very first MySpace users were eUniverse employees. The company held contests to see who could sign-up the most users. The company then used its resources to push MySpace to the masses. eUniverse used its 20 million users and e-mail subscribers to quickly breathe life into MySpace, and move it to the head of the pack of social networking websites.(src:wikipedia.org)

Definition:

Social media is an umbrella term that defines the various activities that integrate technology, social interaction, and the construction of words and pictures. This interaction, and the manner in which information is presented, depends on the varied perspectives and “building” of shared meaning, as people share their stories, and understandings.

Description:

Social media use the “wisdom of crowds” to connect information in a collaborative manner. Social media can take many different forms, including Internet forums, message boards, weblogs, wikis, podcasts, pictures and video. Technologies such as blogs, picture-sharing, vlogs, wall-postings, email, instant messaging, music-sharing, group creation and voice over IP, to name a few. Examples of social media applications are Google (reference, social networking), Wikipedia (reference), MySpace (social networking), Facebook(social networking), Last.fm (personal music), YouTube (social networking and video sharing), Second Life (virtual reality), and Flickr (photo sharing).

Distinction from traditional media

Social media or social networking (one example of social media) has a number of characteristics that make it fundamentally different from traditional media such as newspapers, television, books, and radio. Primarily, social media depends on interactions between people as the discussion and integration of words builds shared-meaning, using technology as a conduit.

Social media utilities create opportunities for the use of both inductive and deductive logos by its users. Claims or warrants are quickly transitioned into generalizations due to the manner in which shared statements are posted and viewed by all. The speed of communication, breadth, and depth, and ability to see how the words build a case solicits the use of rhetoric. Induction is frequently used as a means to validate or authenticate different user’s statement, and words. Rhetoric is an important part of today’s language in social media.

Social media is not finite: there is not a set number of pages or hours. The audience can participate in social media by adding comments or even editing the stories themselves. Content in social media can take the form of text, graphics, audio, or video. Several formats can be mixed. Social media is typically available via feeds, enabling users to subscribe via feed readers, and allowing other publishers to create mashups. Social media signifies a broad spectrum of topics and has several different connotations. In the context of Internet marketing, Social Media refers to a collective group of web properties that are driven by users. For example, blogs, discussion boards, vlogs, video sharing sites and dating sites. Social Media Optimization (SMO) is the process of trying to get ones content more widely distributed across multiple Social Media networks. Social Media has two important aspects. The first, SMO, refers to on-page tactics through which a webmaster can improve a website for the age of social media. Such optimization includes adding links to services such as Digg, Reddit and Del.icio.us so that their pages can be easily ’saved and submitted’ to and for these services. Social Media Marketing, on the other hand, is an off-page characteristic of Social Media. This includes writing content that is remarkable, unique, and newsworthy. This content can then be marketed by popularizing it or even by creating a “viral” video on YouTube and other video sites. Social Media is about being social so this off-page work can include getting involved in other similar blogs, forums, and niche communities. Search Engine Marketing or SEM involves utilization of all available Social Networking platforms to brand a product using Search Engine Optimization or SEO techniques of communication, to the end consumer.
